The Skimmer

Use a skimmer to get rid of any debris that might be on the surface of your water feature. The basket is great for gathering loose leaves, seeds, and twigs that find their way into your pond. We recommend emptying the skimmer every other week, and more often during the fall when there are more leaves to collect. You should also keep an eye on your Fort Worth landscaping as well as your water feature when it’s first installed to see how much debris and maintenance you can expect to deal with on a regular basis. Make sure that your skimmer has a filter mat to take care of the debris that manages to slip through the basket.

The Pump

A pump is another important part of proper water feature maintenance. If you ever notice that the flow of water in your feature is lower than usual, it may mean that you need to clean the pump’s filter screen. When you do have to clean the pump, all you need to do is unplug and remove it before getting rid of the debris.

Seasonal Maintenance

If you have fish in your water feature, we recommend that you stop feeding them when temperatures are around 55 degrees Fahrenheit since a fish’s digestive system is starting to slow down for the approaching winter. Whenever your water turns brown from organic matter, remove as much of it as you can and add activated carbon to clear the water.
